The emerging science of droneography has progressed by leaps and bounds over the course of the past decade, with more and more amazing drone footage being posted to social media channels on a seemingly daily basis.
One of the most amazing things about the whole enterprise is that it was all captured using a store bought drone kit, with no fancy modifications or hidden gimmicks attached. The footage of remote Icelandic scenery was captured using a DJI Phantom Quadcopter by Elia Locardi.
To be absolutely precise, the drone used was a DJI Phantom 2. The Phantom was equipped with a Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal. The aerial footage was obtained using a GoPro Hero 4 Silver. The speed was set to 2.7k at 30fps and then slowed to 24fps in post.
The intention of the drone operators was to create slightly slowed down, rather dreamy view of the mountains and surrounding scenery of Iceland. The drone footage obtained shows a completely realistic and frankly breathtaking view of the beautiful scenery of this remote European island.
However, the creators did succeed in making the footage convey a slightly idealized and surreal vision. In any case, it’s another excellent example of why drone camera photography is the next great development in modern film making.
