The emerging science of droneography has captured another amazing view, this time of a building demolition which occurred in spectacular fashion. The venerable old Winkler Hall has been a longtime landmark on the campus of Appalachian State University, but has aged badly beyond the ability of technicians to effect an overhaul. So, as a result, it’s out with the old, in with the new, and drone cameras were there to capture the entire scene from beginning to finish.
D.H. Griffin Wrecking Company, based in Asheville, N.C., were the company hired to perform the demolition. The footage, which was captured by a remote operated drone camera, was recently posted to the popular upload channel, Vimeo. In the video, you can see the entire operation as it unfolds. First, the video shows a number of breathtaking drone’s eye views of the entire campus. Gradually, the perspective of the video narrows down to the building in question, as demolition crew members are shown preparing to bring Winkler Hall to the ground.
Halfway through the video, we get the “money shot”. A massive implosion brings an end to the building. We get multiple views of the implosion process, all captured in perfect high definition quality. If watching history unfold before your very eyes is something you crave, then this classic drone footage is not to be missed.
